Butalbital APAP is an oral administration drug which is taken for relief from tension headaches. Belonging to barbiturate medications, it is actually a combination of substances with sedative and pain managing properties. Its effect is targeted at the body’s central nervous system, and it provides relief by easing the stressed muscles located on the neck and shoulders; migraine headaches are consequently reduced.

How to Take Butalbital APAP

The medication should be taken in doses predetermined by a doctor, but the standard dose for most adults is two pills for each interval of four hours. Do take note that your total daily dose shouldn’t go over six tablets in any case. Each tablet of Butalbital APAP contains about 750mg of acetaminophen; for adults, this substance can only be taken for up to 4000mg for the entire day. There are also medicinal ingredients in Butalbital APAP which can cause dependence if used for prolonged periods, so the medication should only be taken as directed.

Drug Precautions

Your current medical condition may influence your use of Butalbital APAP, if you have any of the following health problems, ensure that your doctor knows about it before you take the drug: a previous or recurring record of alcohol or drug dependence; lung diseases, including asthma and emphysema; liver diseases like hepatitis or cirrhosis; renal disorders; heart problems; diabetes; extreme depression; and an overactive thyroid. You should also monitor your total intake of acetaminophen for each day’s dose (from all of your sources); do not exceed the maximum amount in order to avoid incurring severe liver conditions.

Drug Interactions

Taking Butalbital APAP in combination with the following medication can cause them to interact: blood thinners (anticoagulants) such as warfarin; oral contraceptives which contain estrogen; carbamazepine or corticosteroids; antidepressant drugs, including trimipramine, amitriptyline, doxepin, trimipramine, and nortriptyline; corticotrophin or divalproex; medications which target the central nervous system, causing drowsiness such as sedatives; and valproic acid.

Side Effects

Your body may experience the following indications of an adverse effect once you take Butalbital APAP: abdominal aches, a sensation of intoxication, sedation, a shortness of breath, a light-headed feeling, or vomiting. If you incur these common conditions, contact your doctor for advice. Rarer side effects may also involve profuse sweating, excessive urination, a fatigued feeling, a parched mouth, a intense (and unusual) feeling of wellness, constipation, agitation, hot flashes, numbness, and an allergic reaction (indicated by a combination of symptoms such as constriction in the throat, hives, and swollenness on specific facial areas).

Missed Dose

Immediately make for a missed intake if you remember it within the hour. Otherwise, skip over the missed dose and take the succeeding one; follow your usual intake schedule.

Overdose

A severe overdose of Butalbital APAP may be fatal. If you experience any of the side effects mentioned above in unusual intensity, call for medical attention instantly.

Storage

Dispense Butalbital APAP from tight containers; keep it at a room temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, and store it away from moisture.
